How do children learn chinese?

Today, I am going to share with you how a 0 – 7 year old learns Chinese.

Here are three things to help you understand Chinese better so that you can help your child.

Chinese is one of the most complicated languages in the world.

Divided into Pictograms & Ideograms (5%), Ideogrammic compounds (13%) & Photo-semantic compounds (majority)

Ideogrammic compounds

Example:

Combining 日 rì  “sun” and 月 yuè ”moon”, the two natural sources of light, makes 明 míng “bright”.

Photo-semantic Compounds

Examples:

河 (hé) river, 湖 (hú) lake, 流 (liú) stream, 沖 (chōng) riptide (or flush), 滑 (huá) slippery.

Yes, Chinese is indeed complicated. So  how?

There are more than 5000 radicals compared to 26 English alphabets.

There is minimal connection between Chinese phonetics with the characters.

1) First: Use It Yourself!

So, use Mandarin in your daily lives. Your child is looking upon you!

Experts had concluded that for a child to acquire a language, he/she needs to be exposed at 40% of the time.

2) Second: Start Early!
