Phonics Flashcards A-Z for Kids
Each card gives a letter, the sound it makes, and a word that starts with it. This is the step between knowing the alphabet and reading: a child who knows the letter is called bee but not that it says buh cannot yet sound a word out.

Common questions
What is the difference between letter names and letter sounds?
The name is what you call the letter; the sound is what it makes in a word. B is named bee but sounds buh. Reading depends on the sound.
When should phonics start?
Usually around four, once most letter names are secure. Starting sounds before names are steady tends to confuse rather than help.
