Every number on this page
Each card shows a group of apples and asks how many there are. Give your child time to count them by pointing, then the card says the number out loud and shows it two ways — as a numeral and as a word. The apples are arranged in rows of three, so the same number always looks the same shape.

Counting out loud comes before understanding how many, and the gap between the two is normal. Watch for whether your child points at each apple once — touching every item exactly once is the skill, and recounting the same apple or skipping one is the usual stumble. The arrangement stays the same on every card so a child starts to recognise four as a shape rather than recounting it from one each time.
Common questions
What age should a child count to 5?
Most children recite one to five around three, and one to ten a little later. Counting a group of objects accurately comes after reciting, so a child who can say the numbers in order may still miscount 5 apples. Both are normal.
Why show the numeral and the number word together?
They are two different things to learn — the shape of the digit and the word that names it. Showing them on the same card, under the group being counted, connects all three without making your child hold anything in their head.
