Every number on this page

Real ducks move, and that is what makes counting them hard away from a screen — a child loses track of which one they have already counted. Pictures hold still, so this is the easier version of a problem you will meet again at the pond. If your child recounts one, try having them touch each duckling on the screen as they say the number.

Why are ducks good for early counting?
They are familiar from books and bath time, so a child is not learning the word and the number at once. The counting is the only new thing on the card.
My child counts the same duck twice. What helps?
Touching each one as they say its number. Pointing forces one number per object, which is the rule that recounting breaks.
